Proprio ieri vi abbiamo parlato di PushMod, un tweak installabile tramite Cydia che permette di scaricare le mail ogni minuto. Oggi BigBoss ha fatto un pò di chiarezza sulla mod, dichiarando anche il grande consumo di batteria che richiede.
Unlike push, regular mail is fetched by the device from the server. The device has to connect to the server, ask if there is any new mail, and pull the content down if so. The process is called polling. Polling is not “free”. On a hand held, battery powered device, it can be very battery intensive. One of the reasons Apple provides the options to set your mail poll from 15, 30, 60 minutes is to avoid the heavy battery drain. In many cases, 15 minutes is considered to be too much of a battery drain!
Come ci dice lo stesso BigBoss, il processo che viene sfruttato in PushMod, il polling, si interfaccia con il server di posta ogni minuto, scaricando, se presenti, nuove email. A differenza delle notifiche Push, che sono avviate da un server esterno e che quindi non vanno ad influire sulla batteria, il polling richiede un compendio energetico davvero enorme.
Per questo motivo il limite delle notifiche push “nativo” è di 15 minuti, e nonostante tutto anche questo influisce pesantemente sulla batteria.
Quindi, a meno che non ne abbiate estremo bisogno, non installate e usate PushMod.
